Bullying on the bus can be a real problem. Here are 5 tips to deal with bullying on the bus:
1. Tell somebody you can trust – it might be the bus driver, a teacher, a parent or even a friend on the bus.
2. Find a friend to sit with if you can. Look out for each other. It’s even better if you can get more than one friend on your side.
3. Stay away from the bully if you can. Sit as far away from them as possible.
4. Some bullies are just trying to get attention and feed their ego. Sometimes these people will stop if you just ignore them.
5. Try to be as confident as you can – don’t let the person know they are bugging you. Sometimes just speaking up and talking it out can be the best way to deal with this kind of thing.

Cooperation Could Have Saved Phoebe Prince

The bullying tip for the day is about Cooperation. Try to use cooperation! It is very important to know that cooperation will help reduce bullying.
Try to cooperate with others.
Try to use words which will encourage people to cooperate.
Try to get along with others so they will want to cooperate with you.

I think you will find that once people see you trying to cooperate, they will try too. When more people start trying to get along, then bullying will start to disappear.

I believe that with more cooperation from those who knew her, Phoebe Prince could have been saved some of the pain she went through.

I believe that together, we can help eliminate bullying!

Was Justin Bieber Ever Bullied?

There is a lot of talk about whether Justin Bieber was bullied in elementary school when he lived in Stratford. If he was bullied, what do you think he would have done?
Here are some possible answers:

Hopefully he would have told someone he trusted.
Talking it over can really help.
Hopefully he would have tried to ignore the person or people if possible.
If Justin Bieber really was bullied, he might have just spoken up and asked them to stop doing it.
I have a feeling he had enough self-esteem to do something about it if bullying happened.
I think he was probably confident enough to just spend time with people who were nice to him.

Here’s a bullying tip for you… Make friends. Just remember that your friends can help you, especially if you are being bullied. And remember to help your friends if they are having a rough time.
I wrote this song because it is SO important to make friends. Here are the words:

Find a person with interests like you.
Be yourself and always be true.
Like I said be honest and be sincere,
Integrity is good any time of the year,
Try to tell the truth at home and at school,

Benny DL visits Williamsburg Public School

Encourage your child to be open to all cultures and ethnicity. If we, as adults model this behaviour, our children will come by it honestly. Read stories set in many different locations around the world. Make a point of learning about cultures you are not familiar with. Take part in cultural festivals with your family whenever possible. The examples you set will serve your children for a lifetime.
Williamsburg Public School in Kitchener Ontario sets these examples using Tribes teaching as a tool for teachers and children. I (Bruce Langford) visited Williamsburg School yesterday to present our ‘Stand Up Against Bullying’ and ‘Stand Up – Keep Your Kids’ programs. We welcomed over 200 people in the evening talk about bullying and cyber-bullying tips. Principal Fran Oppertshauser encouraged us by agreeing to be a reference for our school assemblies.

Cyberbullying Assemblies at Toronto Catholic School

We have just presented our ‘Cyber-Bullying – Got 2 Go’ assembly and our ‘Stand Up Against Bullying’ assembly at Santa Maria Catholic School (Toronto, Ontario) in the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Principal, Rita Santo was pleased with the presentations and told us she will tell colleagues that she recommends the Stand Up Now assemblies by Bruce Langford.

Merci beaucoup d’avoir organisé l’assemblée formidable de taxage. Le “D.J.” nous a montré d’excellentes stratégies pour arrêter le taxage. C’était amusant d’entendre et de chanter les chansons rhythmiques! Avec ce qu’on a appris on a écrit une lettre à une amie qui avait des problèmes de taxage. On a créé des posters contre le taxage. On va aussi faire du drame.

Merci beaucoup pour ce spectacle exceptionnel!

Thank you very much for organizing the great assembly of bullying. The “DJ” has shown excellent strategies to stop bullying. It was fun to hear and sing rhythmic songs! With what we learned we wrote a letter to a friend who had problems with bullying. We created posters against bullying. We will also do drama.

Just returned from a great day at St. Agnes School in the Dufferin Peel Catholic School Board in Brampton Ontario. We presented our ‘Cyberbullying – Got 2 Go’ assemblies. Here are two tips:

1. Don’t give out passwords – even to friends. It can cause problems later, big-time!
2. Also, please don’t give out personal information on-line. Not even about your school or holidays.

Just remember, “Stand Up Against Bullying!”.

Celebrate ALL Cultures on St. Patrick’s Day!

A poll carried out the last week of January, 2010 of about 1500 Canadian adults revealed that 68% have heard racist comments in the past year and 31% have witnessed a racist incident in the past year.
People aged 18-24 are reported to be most likely to report racism and the majority of people in this same age group have the positive belief that racism is declining. (Racism in Canada -Leger Marketing Poll)
Racism can definitely contribute to bullying behaviours. Help stamp out racism. Here’s how:

Speak up. Be willing to report. Be willing to speak against racist jokes or racial slurs. Be sure to set the best examples possible for others. Try to be non-confrontational in your approach, but be confident and secure. Create an image in your mind of a world without racism and believe it can happen.

Today is St. Patrick’s day. Celebrate the Irish, but celebrate all cultures of the world by setting a positive example for others.
Our youth are highly influenced by the behaviours of the rest of us. Every one of us must take the stand – Stand Up Against Racism!

Superbowl Star Tracy Porter’s Winning Attitude Helps Win the 2010 Superbowl

Tracy Porter intercepted Peyton Manning with only minutes left in the game and returned the pick 74 yards for a touchdown. That sealed the New Orleans’ Saints first Super Bowl victory on February 7, 2010!

Cornerback Tracy Porter’s winning attitude and absolute focus can be an inspiration to those of us teaching others how to reduce bullying and increase respect.
