NEW SARUM – “Stand up against bullying” is the message New Sarum Public School teacher Bruce Langford is sending students.
Langford has developed a unique format to spread his message, one that is in tune with the students. The program is styled after a radio call-in show and includes music. Through it, Langford is trying to get the message out to “stand up and make your mark, stand up, and speak your part. When you see a kid put down, you can help if you’re around.”
Prevention and awareness of the different forms bullying takes, he feels, is one way to make the school learning experience for children safe and fair for all.

“We are trying to get the kids to stand up for each other and protect each other from bullying. There are times when so many will watch an incident and perhaps not know that to do. We want them to do something, to speak up. If bullying goes on it can lead to major problems.”
The fictitious radio station he uses is called “ATFM” which stands for A Time For Music, and his ATFM persona is Benny DL in honour of his two-year-old son.
Langford worked on the program all summer and is now being given the time to share the message with students at New Sarum and, soon, at other schools.
